Liquid Metal Info

Liquid Metal Creators

The two men responsible for the discovery and creation of the Liquid metal alloy are Dr. William Johnson, Professor of Engineering & Applied Science at California Institute of Technology and Dr. Atakan Peker, lead scientist at Liquid metal Technologies.

Research on bulk metallic glass or amorphous metals has been underway since the late 1950s, but it was not until Dr. Johnson's and Dr. Peker's breakthrough in 1992 that commercial use of Liquid metal alloys moved closer to reality. Their original goal was to develop metallic alloys that could be used in such applications as jet wings and rocket-engine parts. Their discovery of the material provided a revolutionary solution. Liquid metal alloys solidify without crystallizing, which Drs. Johnson and Peker believe is why they are twice as strong as titanium, but softer and more malleable.
